Open regional data

Read health systems in context.

A transparent view of capacity, spending and outcomes across South Asia, built around the data's limits as well as its signal.

WDI is the distribution layer. Original providers remain visible for every indicator.

Monitor

Compare the signals that shape capacity.

Five measures. Five different statistical stories. Use the year shown beside each value before drawing a conclusion.

Workforce observation

Medical practitioners per 1,000 people. Coverage and numerator definitions can vary by country.

Read the difference

There is no single health-system score here.

Workforce, beds, spending and mortality answer different questions. The monitor keeps them side by side without pretending they measure the same thing.

01
Year alignment matters

A latest value can be several years older than a neighbour's. Common year mode makes that visible.

02
Source character matters

Workforce and beds are observations. Health expenditure is accounting data. Mortality is modelled.

03
Density is not access

A count per population does not reveal distribution, staffing, quality, occupancy or financial protection.

Methods

Five indicators. Three kinds of evidence.

World Bank WDI provides the canonical series for this interface. Original providers and statistical character are preserved in the registry.

01

Reported capacity

Physicians, nurses and midwives, and hospital beds are primarily reported or administratively derived resource statistics.

WHO workforce data / country systems
02

Harmonised spending

Current health expenditure is a health-accounting estimate for goods and services consumed during the year, excluding capital spending.

WHO Global Health Expenditure Database
03

Modelled outcome

Under-five mortality is an annual UN IGME estimate built from civil registration, census and survey evidence. WDI is not a projection series.

Five WDI-distributed series are used as the canonical figures. The API is read on load and the extraction date is shown in the monitor.
